76904540SD004_MARSHALL_V_HONothing like consistency….

That is what you get with Houston QB Case Keenum (photo, thanks Scout.com).

While other QBs make fantasy players, coaches, owners, prognosticators, et al…make one stupid with inconsistency, Keenum makes everyone look like a genius.

Keenum led Oklahoma State to a 45-35 win in Stillwater last weekend, while putting up some good offensive numbers.  The Cougar QB stared down the toughest defense UH will face all season, and the defense blinked.  The OSU defense was the same defense one week earlier that shut down Georgia.

As long as Keenum stays upright, the Houston offense is just going to roll over the rest of their competition in 2009…and I am including a meeting with Texas Tech next weekend.

And, I can safely say that….this week you should not play Keenum (What?  You hypocrite!)

Calm down, now….Keenum and his fellow Houston Cougars have this week off.   You can play him the next 9-12 weeks or so.

On to the rest of the QBs….

Tim Tebow – Florida (vs Tennessee): New Vols coach Lane Kiffin may wish he was back at the Oakland Raiders after this one….um, OK maybe not back at the Raiders.  Though, it will feel like it after facing Tebow.  Al Davis looks like a genius for one weekend this season.  And just one weekend…

Darryl Clark – Penn State (vs Temple): He may play just two quarters or so, but the Nittany Lions may be up by seven 7 TDs by halftime.  After a few years of some improvement, the Owls look like they are slipping back into their abyss….do Owls live in an abyss?

Colt McCoy – Texas (vs Texas Tech): The game that cost them a shot at the Big XII and National Championship last season…the late second Red Raiders win in Lubbock.  Colt and his ‘Horns will remember….don’t you forget.

Bo Levi Mitchell – SMU (at Washington State): Mitchell (photo, right, thanks Scout.com) should SMU UCF Footballbreak-out all over the Cougars in the Palouse.  You know your program is bad, Wazzu, when the worst team in CUSA last season may be a road favorite at your BCS-level school.

Colin Kaepernick – Nevada (Colorado State): Do not forget about Kaepernick, even though he did not produce at Notre Dame.  Colorado State is 2-0, having small wins over Colorado and Weber State…and the Colorado win is not as impressive-looking as it was two weeks ago.

Max Hall – BYU (vs Florida State): BYU and Hall get their first home game of the season, and get to face a reeling Florida State….whose defense got lit up by Miami….and ball-controlled almost two-to-one in time of possession by FCS Jacksonville State Gamecocks last week.

Tony Pike – Cincinnati (at Oregon State): I was surprised how late Pike went in most fantasy drafts this year.  Those fantasy teams got a steal.  And, I think Pike, whether Cincy wins or loses, will put up some stats on the Beavers this weekend.  Pike is the favorite to be Big East Player of the Year, and possibly now a darkhorse Heisman candidate.

OTHERS TO PLAY:  G.J. Kinne – Tulsa; Zac Robinson – Oklahoma State; Matt Grothe – South Florida; Joe Webb – UAB; Dan LeFevour – Central Michigan; Tim Hiller – Western Michigan; Blaine Gabbert – Missouri

Jevan Snead – Ole Miss (vs SE Louisiana): Not that Snead will have a bad game, but, the Rebels will be so heavily favored that Snead will have to do minimal for Ole Miss to win big.

Taylor Potts – Texas Tech (at Texas): See the Colt McCoy entry above…and reverse it for Potts.  Could be a rough week for Potts, though he will get some yards…just not the scores.

Robert Griffin – Baylor (vs UConn): Not because Griffin faces a good team….just a UConn team that has to slow the game down to have any chance to win.  Griffin may not get as many chances with the ball.

Zac Lee – Nebraska (at Virginia Tech): Lee has been good so far for the Huskers, but Lane Stadium is not an easy place for a visiting offense to play in.

Rusty Smith – Florida Atlantic (vs South Carolina): Smith is a good QB…best to play him, though, vs Sun Belt competition.  Never sure when the USC Gamecock defense will show up.

AaronOpeltAaron Opelt – Toledo (at Ohio State): Kudos to Opelt (photo, left, thanks Scout.com) for being the FCB Fantasy Player of the Week last week….but not this week in The Shoe…not after the Buckeyes lost a heartbreaker to USC Trojans last week.

Jarrett Brown – West Virginia (at Auburn): Brown made me look like an idiot last week, after he went ballistic on a decent East Carolina defense last week.  It will not happen two weeks in a row on The Plains.

Case Keenum – Houston; Corey Leonard – Arkansas State

Omar Clayton – UNLV: As of this writing, Clayton has a sprained knee, suffered last week in the Rebels loss to Oregon State.  The chances are slim he will play vs Hawaii this weekend…but a sleeper free-agent pick up could be his backup Mike Clausen (hopefully no one in my leagues pick him).  Clausen threw 2 TDs late in the Oregon State loss, and filled in well when Clayton was out of action last season.
