FSU is ranked once more and overall the team has looked good outside of the Oklahoma game. The run defense looks like it may be the real thing. They held a solid Virginia rushing offense to only 25 yards on the ground. The Noles defense is maturing more with every game which is good as the offense has continued to struggle in the passing game. Christian Ponder only threw for 172 yards and a score against an injured and weakened secondary. Virginia’s Kris Burd had a sweet 76 yard score early in the second half and he continues to be the only decent play for them week in and week out.
Boston College looked abysmal against Notre Dame, only managing to put up 13 points. Freshman Chase Rettig got the starting nod over Dave Shinskie and looked decent. He completed 50% of his passes for 72 yards and a score, but was lost for the game in the second quarter due to an ankle injury. He was replaced with Mike Marscovetra who looked terrible as he couldn’t find a way to punch it into the endzone and threw 2 INTs. The QB struggles for Boston College is really hurting the running game as Montel Harris again failed to put up anything decent on the ground.
The Georgia Tech versus Wake Forrest game pitted two option offenses against one another. Wake took the lead early on and held onto it for most of the game, but again Joshua Nesbitt’s late game heroics saved the Yellow Jackets from another embarrassing loss. That should just show you how far they have fallen this year; that a terrible Wake Forrest team nearly beat last year’s ACC champs.
NC State dominated Virginia Tech the first half taking a 17-7 lead. Russell Wilson looked every bit as impressive as he was hyped. But then they came out in the second half and the Wolfpack’s young defense decided to phone in the last two quarters which allowed the Hokies to make a significant comeback. Tyrod Taylor put the team on his shoulders and managed to eek out a 41-30 win. Wilson still finished the game with 362 yards and 3 scores but the 3 INT really hurt his bottom line. Darren Evans finally hit his stride as he rushed for 160 yards and 2 scores.
The two teams thought to be the leading candidates for the ACC Championship game, Clemson and Miami, met and both looked really sloppy. There was a total of 5 INT thrown in this game which is disgusting. Leonard Hankerson was the highlight for Miami as he hauled in 7 receptions for 147 yards and 3 scores while Andre Ellington rushed for 107 yards and 3 TDs for Clemson.
